CTS has conveyed their best wishes and warm congratulations to UK-based owner Dale Brennan, who supported our Ready To Run Sale last year and came away with two purchases, including the R900,000 colt Dublin Quays, a debut winner at the Vaal on Tuesday.

Dublin Quays showed pace and gave a strong finishing effort under jockey Diego De Gouveia. He won going away.

Originally called ‘Tall Cotton’, two-year-old Dublin Quays was unsold at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale, but the son of Trippi and Pacific Dynasty attracted his fair share of interest at the Ready To Run auction. He was bought by Gary Woods and Chris Santos of Empire International Bloodstock.

Santos commented: “Dublin Quays went to Chesney van Zyl, but was transferred to Mike de Kock when Chesney moved to Durban. “Dale Brennan is one of our top clients, he is an Irish businessman who races horses in the UK, Dubai and now in South Africa, we are very pleased for him.”

De Kock also shared his congratulations to Brennan and said: “I was introduced to him in Dubai by TV journalist Richie Persad.  We had a game of golf, he loves his golf like I do, and we struck up a friendship. Dublin Quays is a nice type of horse, he will win his races. We need more owners of Dale’s standing to invest in our industry, and we are thankful for his support.”

As for the re-naming of the horse, Brennan himself wrote on Facebook: “That’s one for granny, she had a wool shop on Eden Quay in the thirties, she went on a cruise to South Africa when she retired and she bloody loved it there!”

Dublin Quays was bred by Drakenstein Stud.
