Jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe’s observation that Snow Report was “a real racehorse” after he’d won his Maiden was vindicated when the What A Winter colt won the Gr3 Langerman over 1500m at Kenilworth on Saturday in a driving finish.

Snow Report (12-1) just held on from a fast finishing 2-1 favourite Silver Operator and Finding Camelot to claim the lion’s share of the R200,000 stake. The first three runners past the post were all sold at CTS auctions, and all have bright futures.

Finding Camelot was the first to show from King Of Gems and Minnesota Dream. Silver Operator was in midfield with Snow Report behind him and on the green side, proving an early handful, but Fayd’Herbe won the battle and had him well positioned on the rail turning for home. Snow Report came through to take it up just inside the 200m mark and kept his head in front.

Trainer Candice Bass-Robinson was understandably delighted. “He’s a lovely horse, but not easy, and very headstrong. Now it’s time to geld him and put him away until the summer season. Hopefully that will help him to settle in his races.”

Bass Racing went to R400,000 for Snow Report at the CTS April 2017 Yearling Sale, and he was syndicated to partners Marsh Shirtliff, Martin Wickens and Gisela Burg. He shows two wins from four starts and earnings approaching the R200,000 mark.
