She’s proven to be just below the best of her generation in the major centres, but four-year-old Sovereign Secret gave her already excellent pedigree a black-type boost when she won Friday’s Listed Lady’s Bracelet over 1600m at Fairview.

This achievement will ensure that Sovereign Secret’s offspring receive their share of attention in the auction ring one day, and her manner of victory suggests that she’ll win a few more races to make her blood even more valuable in time to come.

In contention at the 400m mark, Sovereign Secret (33-10) moved up smartly under a nudge from Lyle Hewitson. She swept away to a 3.50-length win from Sailing Ship, with Wallis Simpson in third.

“She didn’t look too well weighted, but had a chance on collateral form lines. She’s a big filly, covers a lot of ground, and she was nice and relaxed in the race. When I gave her a reminder 400m out, she strode away nicely. Mr Snaith wanted bLack type for her, mission accomplished,” said Hewitson.

Sovereign Secret was a R1 million buy from the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale. She is trained by Justin Snaith and races for Pete and Janet Carolin.

Bred by Klawervlei, she is by champion Dynasty from the six-time winning Captain Al mare, All Is Secret.
