Bard Of Avon: More to come!

The main attraction at this Thursday’s dispersal sale of thoroughbreds owned by the estate of the late Jumat Cola, to be staged by Cape Thoroughbred Sales (CTS) at the Vaal, is the classic contender Bard Of Avon (VAR). He’s a three-time winner from nine starts and he’s Gr1-placed, with runs from 1000m to 1400m. A share of 33% in this quality tree-year-old gelding will be auctioned off after the last race at the meeting.

Andrew Fortune, speaking on behalf of Bard Of Avon’s trainer Ashley Fortune, commented: “Bard Of Avon is a lovely, sound horse with a bright career ahead of him. He had a lot of pace when he was younger so he did well down the straight, but now he is better suited to more ground.”

Fortune explained: “As a two-year-old, Bard Of Avon won the Sales Cup race over 1300m ran a close second to William Robertson in the Sales Cup equivalent over 1400m at Turffontein. When he finished unplaced, fifth over 1000m last week some of his followers were disappointed, but the first thing jockey Aldo Domeyer said after the race was that he definitely wants 1400m now. Bard Of Avon also just naturally needed that outing for lack of prep gallops with all the rain we’ve had. So that run is not to be worried about, he’s a really good horse and he’ll make any new part-owner happy. We’re looking forward to the rest of his campaign this season.”
