The remarkable Captain Lars, a graduate from the first CTS Cape Premier Yearling Sale in 2011, scored the 20th victory of his stellar career when drawing away at Ffos Las on Monday afternoon.

The evergreen nine-year-old, dispatched the 6-5 favourite, made all to win the Handicap over 1000m for trainer Archie Watson and rider Edward Greatrex by 2,75-lengths.

In the process, Captain Lars made it win number eight for the year. Winner of the 2014 Listed Drum Star Handicap in South Africa, Captain Lars has won no fewer than 15 races since relocating to Britain and has proved a wonderful advertisement for the quality and durability of the South African-bred and the CTS auctions.

Bred by Klawervlei, Captain Lars is by the late champion sire Captain Al, out of the Polar Falcon mare Polar Charge, runner up in the 2000 G1 Oaks d’Italia (Italian Oaks).

Polar Charge is a three-parts sister to outstanding sire Pivotal (by Polar Falcon), who was represented by his 28th individual G1 winner this year when his son Lightning Spear captured the Qatar Sussex Stakes. The regally bred Captain Lars is a full-brother to Klipdrif Stud’s new sire, Always In Charge.
