KLAWERVLEI will be offering a world class draft of yearlings at the 2016 Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale. Few, however, if any yearlings boost a more sizzling female line than does lot 107 – a daughter of champion sire and seven times champion 2yo sire Captain Al.
This unnamed bay is out of a winning Encosta De Lago half sister to G1 Emirates Stakes winner All American and to G2 Tea Rose Stakes heroine More Strawberries. While the former made news as the sire of recent G1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner and G1 Golden Slipper runner up Yankee Rose, his half sister More Strawberries is the dam of a Frankel filly who was sold for $1.6 million at the recent Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
The filly on sale’s second dam is a Strawberry Road (damsire of champion Vindication and G1 star Quality Road among others) half sister to G1 Santa Anita Handicap hero and sire Rock Hard Ten, while third dam and G1 Prix Morny star Tersa is a half sister to Kentucky Derby winner Gato Del Sol. Truly a sensational female line!
Encosta De Lago is enjoying an outstanding season as a broodmare sire –with his daughters having been represented by 12 stakes winners this season, with their tally of stakes winners including such G1 winners as Peeping (Coolmore Classic), The Quarterback (Newmarket Handicap and Japonisme (Ascot Vale Stakes).
This blue blooded filly is by Cape Guineas winner and elite SA sire Captain Al, whose outstanding daughters include champions All Is Secret and Captain’s Lover, G1 winners Captain’s Gal, Carry On Alice and ill-fated Paddock Stakes winner Emerald Cove, and this seasons’ 2yo sensation Cloth Of Cloud, brilliant winner of the recent G3 Pretty Polly Stakes. The champion son of Al Mufti is also shaping up as an outstanding broodmare sire, with his daughters already having produced such G1 winners as Same Jurisdiction and Potent Power, as well as the graded winners Flash Drive and Hot Affair and promising 2yo Flying Myth.
