THERE is a reason to dress up and get to Kenilworth Racecourse this weekend with the running of the Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes presented by CTS.

It’s a day when fine wines are paired with the best cuisine and where the action on the racetrack provides an added element of excitement. Particularly for those involved in this lucrative sales race where a mammoth R2.5-million stake is offered.

t’s been a wonderful partnership with Lanzerac and this has become a unique day on the Cape racing calendar,” Adrian Todd, managing director of Cape Thoroughbred Sales, said before Saturday’s event.

“The goal has been to bring Lanzerac Hotel & Spa to Kenilworth and to get them to recreate the feel and ambience of their property on the racecourse and it’s something they’ve managed to do consistently,” Todd added.

The timing of the race could well be spot on given that CTS are hosting a sale in Johannesburg next week and there is every possibility that those runners lining up in this field could go on to emulate the feats of CTS sales graduates Captain America, Red Ray, French Navy, Always In Charge and Seventh Plain who all went on to Group One success.

“The whole concept of our Ready To Run sales is to have a reward for people who purchase at our sales. Whether they choose to enter both of our events or just the one, the choice is there for them and offers a chance to get a return on their purchases,” said Todd of the concept.

The event coincides with the running of the Selangor Cup (Gr 2) which is another key pointer as the Summer of Champions heats up.

There are a limited number of bookings still available in the Somerset Room on the day with the added benefit that those who choose to race from the venue will be entered into a lucky draw to win a one night stay for two at Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.
