International bloodstock entrepreneur Justin Vermaak will be presenting 16 two-year-olds under his Vermaak Equine banner, at the CTS Ready To Run Sale on 20 November.
“I am very proud of this draft, said Vermaak, who will be selling “as agent” for a number of stud farms and believes the lots in this contingent have all-round quality.
Vermaak discussed his draft, briefly and in lot order.
Lot 1, Cuban Salsa: “A late foal from a late-coming female line, but he’s a smart specimen and a stand-out with a good action. I like the Coup De Grace offspring; they could be special and this one qualifies for sales bonuses.”
Lot 2, Lucky Seven: “He’s by Seventh Rock and a similar colt to Rock The Globe who is Gr1 placed and on top of the current Ready To Run Log. Lucky Seven is a big, strong colt bred from a half-sister to Captain Al.”
Lot 7, Chicago West: “Chicago West is by Oratorio from Dollar Crisis, the prolific producer of stakes winners. He’s a half-brother to Durban July winner Big City Life, being by Oratorio will take some time but he’s a lovely colt who moves well. Worth waiting for.
Lot 47, Var’s Illusion: “This one is a definite value buy by Elusive Fort, who qualifies for BSA bonuses. He’s a beautiful shaped colt who moves nicely and won’t be expensive. Keep an eye out.”
Lot64, Miss Generosity: “Selling this filly on behalf of Golden Touch Thoroughbreds. She is a nice strong filly bred on the Philanthropist/VAR cross like stakes winner She’s A Giver.”
Lot 71, Northern Song: “Very nice, well-sized colt with substance, selling him on behalf of Nutfield Stud. He has an Oratorio with a beautiful action, from the Fort Wood mare Nordic Spring who has already produced Listed placed Viking Trial.”
Lot 92, Sovereign Rose: “Another raised by Golden Touch, this is a medium sized filly by Duke Of Marmalade, but she’s well balanced smart and classy and her sister Duchess Of Bourbon won the Kenilworth Winter Oaks. Make sure you view her.”
Lot 95, Tripple Jet: “By a super stallion in Trippi from a record-breaking damsire, Tripple Jet is an eye-catching galloper who qualifies for the BSA bonuses.”
Lot 99, Unnamed, by Oratorio: “This filly is by Oratorio from a Jallad mare, rare blood now and the good strong female line of eight-time winner Masai Warrior. Impressive.”
Lot 101, Firstamongequals: “A very good moving colt by top sire Gimmethegreenlight from dam who has produced two winners from two foals, including Driving Miss Daisy, who has earned black type an is on her way to the Fillies Guineas.”
Lot 107, Jackson Pollock: “The mating of Dynasty with Sound The Flute produced Gr1 placed Majestic Mozart. Here we have a colt by Dynasty’s son Jackson from the same mare. He’s a good mover from a proven Ready To Run family, don’t pass him by.”
Lot 110, Times New Roman: “This colt is the pick of our draft. He is by Futura, who sired the sales-topper the most recent Johannesburg auction, I have already bought a few of them, they are most impressive. Times New Roman is a colt with a magnificent action, he has been prepared by Glen Kotzen, whose stable jockey Morne Winnaar has noted that he has the feel of a horse with a future.”
Lot 121, Flame Lily: “From Golden Touch, here is an Oratorio half-sister to Gr1 sprint winner Guiness. She won’t take much time, looks precocious enough to run as a two-year-old.”
Lot 135, Smileatthesunset: “An interesting colt from a good family. By What A Winter from West Donegal, who produced the Kenilworth Cup winner Paddy O’Reilly. We bought her foal Sea King (Judpot), he finished a close 5th in a Gr1 before being exported. Then we bought Saint West (Judpot), a promising stayer who has already won twice. With the injection of speed stallion What A Winter, this colt could be anything.”
Lot 141, Unnamed: “Here’s a very nice late foal by exceptional value stallion Potala Palace. He’s a half-brother to decent stayer Cool Chardonnay and with the speed of Potala Palace mated to his dam Wine Dark Sea, he could be a promising buy at a good price.”
Lot 164, Bezos: “Very nice colt by Wylie Hall I bought for a client at the Book One Sale, he is developing into a nice horse. Wylie Hall showed what he was worth last season, perhaps a bit unlucky because his best two-year-old were exported, but we know he can do the job. Bezos, whose dam is Costly Romance (Encosta De Lago) was named after the Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who went through a very expensive divorce.”
