Former Equus Champion Sprinter, Captain Of All (Captain Al) has made a pleasing start to his stud career at Klawervlei. The triple G1 winner got off the mark as a sire when his daughter What You Are won a Juvenile Plate over 1000m at the Vaal on Tuesday. Trained by Tobie Spies, the Terry Andrews bred What You Are stormed home under Muzi Yeni to win in commanding fashion.

Spies commented: “What You Are is a bit light in her first two dams, but she was a really nice foal and we picked her up for R70,000 at the CTS April Yearling Sale in 2018, we thought that was quite a bargain.

“We have a few Captain Of All two-year-olds in the stable and they are all nice. When Al Mufti’s foals hit the ground many years ago we bought several of them, the Al Mufti stamp ran through Captain Al and the Captain Of All progeny carry it too, we think he will produce the goods at stud.” Bred by the Riverton Stud, Captain Of All was a superb athlete who was crowned South Africa’s Champion Sprinter of 2014-2015. The handsome bay won or placed in 11 of his 12 outings, for earnings well over R2 000 000 and his principal victories including the 2013G1 Tsogo Sun Medallion, 2015 G1 Tsogo Sun Sprint and 2015 G1 Mercury Sprint. A total outcross to both Norther Dancer and Mr Prospector, Captain Of All’s yearlings fetched up to R425 000 at the recent Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
