Lot 162, filly by Pomodoro

Raised in the fertile valley of Hemel ’n Aarde Stud in Hermanus, five yearlings have been entered to the CTS April Sale.  Neighbouring Nadeson Park Stud has a 27-strong consignment.

Hemel ’n Aarde’s David Hepburn-Brown, who was active buying mares at a recent Mixed Sale, has improved the farm’s stock year-on-year and he is chuffed with this sale’s offerings.

He has two Pomodoro’s, a filly and a colt and he notes: “A Pomodoro pair finished second and fourth in last Saturday’s Protea Stakes. Cirillo flew up and almost beat Bold Eagle.  Pomodoro has signalled he can be a good stallion from just a few runners.

“The filly, Lot 162, is from the Model Man mare Pin Cushion, well related and the colt, Lot 199, is from a Casey Tibbs mare related to Primal Dance and Broadway Flyer. They’re both nice.”

Lot 181 is a colt by Where’s That Tiger from Royal Magic, a nice specimen whose second dam is a half-sister to the dam of former Hong Kong superstar Sacred Kingdom.

Lot 202 is a Vercingetorix filly from Strawberryshortcake, “very scopy” and by a stallion Hepburn-Brown rates highly on what he’s seen so far.

Lastly, a Captain Of All filly from Julia’s World, Lot 319: “She is nicely balanced and looks a quick type, she has substance,” he said.

Charl van der Westhuizen manages Nadeson Park Stud for Hassen Adams and he is especially fond of Lot 14, a colt by Time Thief (AUS). “He’s a strong, well-built colt, a stunning individual when you take him out of his box. The Time Thief yearlings are all good-sized.”

Lot 22 is a Gimmethegreenlight filly from Pearly Moon, “a nice correct type”, according to Van der Westhuizen.  “Pearly Moon is unproven, she is a sister to Perakeen whose only had one previous foal and we’re hoping this one can put her on the map.”

Another likeable youngster by Gimmethegreenlight is Lot 268, a first colt foal born from the mare Command Chi, by Commands. “He’s beautiful, strong and a good walker.”

Lot 292 is a very strong, big filly by Great Britain and Van der Westhuizen tells: “Trainer Sean Tarry was doing his rounds early this morning and he ticked this one in his catalogue, he liked her.”
