Perennial Top Five Breeders, Drakenstein Stud, have eight choice yearlings stabled at De Grendel for the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Lot 66 is Far Away Winter, a colt by What A Winter from a young mare by Trippi. “He’s a smashing colt, well balanced with a strong hind leg,” said Kevin Sommerville of Drakenstein.

Lot 87 is a chestnut colt by William Longsword from Imvula, by Iqlaam, the half-sister to Dancer’s Daughter. “He’s a beautiful, big and scopy colt and we have catalogue updates – his half-sister Rain In Newmarket is now a two-time winner and the other, Rain in Holland, was placed second on a cracking debut. This mare looks promising indeed.”

One from the first crop of Gold Standard (Trippi) is Lot 114, a first foal from Looking At The Stars (Philanthropist), from the family of Lady Windermere. “He’s big, with plenty of scope,” said Sommerville.

Future Turn (Lot 132) is by Futura from Pin Turn, a daughter of the accomplished broodmare sire Pivotal. “He’s a typical Futura, may need some time, but there is much promise here. His half-sister is the smart Zimbaba (Legislate), who has won and placed again since the catalogue was published.”

Lot 147 is Duke Of Rock, by Duke Of Marmalade from Rock on Baby (Seventh Rock) a dam whose first foal, Rock On Philly (Philanthropist), won very well on debut in January.

Lot 171 is Stratospheric, a “beautiful, big colt” by What A Winter from Gr1 winner Stratos (Jet Master), from the family of Orpheus and Abercrombie.

Twice Over’s son (Lot 176), was bred from Supreme Vision, by Visionaire, and Sommerville assessed: “He’s a very scopy son of Twice Over and his dam is a half-sister to Do It Again, we’re very happy with the product.”

Lot 136, to round off the draft, is Rose For Trippi (by Trippi), the first foal of Citizen Rose by Star Witness (AUS). “She’s a smart and well-balanced filly, looks precocious,” he noted.
