The fairytale continues for the young owners of Takingthepeace, who watched her winning her sixth race from only 13 starts when she captured the Gr3 Victory Moon Stakes over 1800m at Turffontein on Thursday evening.

Murray Makepeace, Michael Shea and Mike de Kock paid R280,000 for Summerhill-bred Takingthepeace at the 2016 CTS Ready To Run Sale, and the brothers Craig and Ross Kieswetter bought into her later. She’s won them a Gr1, Gr 2 and Gr3 race and over R1,75-million in stakes.

Takingthepeace, who is known for her late-running tactics – she likes to come from last, raced handy in the Victory Moon under Warren Kennedy and Mike de Kock commented: “She was going to race in her usual fashion, coming from off them, but Warren read the pace right and had her in contention early. The conditions suited her and she won a nice race. Well done again to the partners.”

The Gr1 Summer Cup on 1 December will be the ultimate test for Takingthepeace. “She’ll be 4 or 5 lbs worse off in the Summer Cup due to her sex allowance in the Victory Moon,” De Kock noted.

He was impressed, too, with the run of another CTS graduate Like A Panther, who came from last and ran on into 8th, beaten only six lengths. “He gave Takingthepeace 4.5kg and will be better off with her in the Cup. I’m happy with his progress and he just needed this run to bring him on. He’ll be spot-on for the Cup.”

Mike felt that Cascapedia, too, would be ‘cherry ripe’ come Cup day. “She ran another good race, beaten less than half a length. Takingthepeace franked Cascapedia’s win from 6 October, the form is looking strong!”
