Cape Thoroughbred Sales (CTS) announced on Monday that it will stage a bonus race on Ready To Run Stakes Day at Kenilworth, this coming Saturday.

The race will be named the CTS Ready To Run Stakes Consolation, over 1400m, and the prize money will be R85,000. It was conceived at acceptance stage on Monday morning, 16 November, when 25 runners stood their ground for the main RTR Stakes contest (R1,25-million).

Grant Knowles, Bloodstock & Marketing Director of CTS, commented: “Only 16 runners are allowed for the CTS Ready To Run Stakes, but the consolation gives everyone a chance to compete. It’s the first time we have done this, we value all our buyers and at least this way they have an interest on the big day. The Kenilworth Racing Board will be taking up 50% of the sponsorship.”

Trainer Justin Snaith commented: “I was delighted when I received a call from the National Racing Bureau that a RTR consolation race had been added. It’s wonderful that every horse and owner are now included. This is a great initiative and very generous of CTS.”
