Fourteen prospectors for the inaugural CTS Gold Rush were drawn out of the hat just prior to the commencement of the Cape Premier Yearling Sale at the De Grendel Estate on Sunday, 14 March.

Every buyer who secured a yearling at the new-look sale this year has an opportunity to participate in the CTS Gold Rush, a 1600m race planned for January 2023.

A capacity field of sixteen will line up for the rich prize.

The R7,5-million on offer will make this innovative stakes prize the richest in South Africa. The winning owner, or owners, will receive a lucrative R5-million.

The fourteen names drawn were allocated Prospector’s Certificates for their investment of R400 000 and Grant Knowles, Bloodstock and Marketing Director of CTS reminded buyers that the Gold Rush is not limited to the fourteen Prospectors.

“Anybody who buys a horse has a chance of sharing in the rewards. If you acquire a top runner, the Prospectors will be knocking down your door to negotiate outright purchases or partnership deals in the lead-up to the race, and opportunities will be created for all connections of form runners.”

The first 14 names drawn out of the box will be awarded a Prospector’s certificate.

Those to receive Prospector’s Certificates are:
