Perennial Top 10 breeders Drakenstein Stud (Top five finishers the last two seasons), likes to let its horses do the talking, with racetrack performances invariably outweighing the modesty of those who run the Franschoek operation.

Stud Manager Ross Fuller said of Drakenstein’s 2019 draft: “We have a nice spread of stallions, offering a good variety for buyers with yearlings by Trippi, Dynasty, Silvano, Duke Of Marmalade, Grey’s Inn and others.

“So far we’ve had a decent flow of interested buyers walking through here at CTICC, we’ve done our bit, our yearlings are all nice and they deserve to be here. Now it’s up to the buyers to put their hands up.”

Fuller mentioned a few to watch, in particular:

“Lot 202 is a big, strong colt by Silvano from Tick Tock, by Captain Al, whose first foal William The Silent (VAR) won the Gr2 SA Nursery. This one moves well and has a lot of Captain Al in him.

“Lot 183 comes up late in the sale, she is a nice bay filly named Dontworrybehappy, by Duke Of Marmalade and the first foal of Song Of Happiness, by Giant’s Causeway. The wonderful stakes family of Captain’s Lover and Ebony Flyer is represented in the second dam.

“Lot 184 is very nice, he is by Trippi from Spiced Gold, a full-brother to Chimichuri Run who looks a lot like him, a racy type.

“Lot 56 is Firealley. He is a chestnut colt by Flower Alley from Firespinner by Galileo, a second foal with a good international female line.”

In all, we are very happy with what we’re presenting to buyers this year,” said Fuller.
