The 2021/2 Cape Summer Racing Season kicks off in exciting style on Saturday with the running of four Graded features on Cape Fillies Guineas Day, and graduates from various CTS Sales will be prominent in all nine races on the programme.

Lightly-raced Charity Ball (Philanthropist), a 2019 Premier Sale purchase, is tipped by Computaform to win Race 1 over 1200m from Glen Kotzen and the Kalmanson family of Varsfontein, while 2020 Ready To Run graduate Polar World (William Longsword) debuts for Adam Marcus.

In Race 2 over 1200m most of the tipsters are going for Bernard Kantor-owned Bon Voyage, a gelding by Trippi trained by Justin Snaith, with two other Klawervlei-breds Autumn Moon (William Longsword) and Shape of my Heart (Twice Over) also in the contest.

Top quality Premier Sale fillies Princess Calla (Flower Alley) and Really Royal (Captain Al) take on the accomplished Captain’s Ransom in Race 3, a Pinnacle Plate over 1500m.

Race 4 is the first of the day’s feature races, the G3 Summer Stayers Handicap over 2500m in which Crimson King (Dynasty, CPYS) is the most fancied runner in the ante-post market following a fluent win over the smart Hoedspruit in his only start over 2400m. Retro Effect (Twice Over, CPYS) and Swift Surprise (Twice, CTS MYS), are place contenders on recent form.

No fewer than six CTS representative fillies will take on rising star Desert Miracle in the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas and there is some quiet confidence for strong opposition to come from Chansonette (Vercingetorix, CPYS), Maria Querol (Querari, CPYS) Dancetildaylight (Gimmethegreenlight, R2R) Homely Girl (Querari, R2R), Queen of Shadows (Vercingetorix, R2R) and the up-and-coming She’s A Rainbow (Silvano, CPYS).

Roll in the Hay (Gimmethegreenlight, CPYS), Debutante Stakes winner Maryah (Querari, CPYS) and Gimme Dat (Gimmethegreenlight, CPYS)) will be among the longer-priced runners in the G2 Southern Cross Stakes over 1000m (Race 6), but they’re all talented and capable of surprising.

Five of SA’s big guns will contest the popular G2 Green Point Stakes (Race 7) over 1600m and CTS graduates Linebacker (Captain of All, CPYS) and Seeking The Stars (Vercingetorix, R2R), both have claims in the winners’ cheque.

Race 8 is a Pinnacle Stakes over 1100m in which stablemates and champion sprinters Rio Querari (Querari, R2R) and Kasimir (Captain Al, CPYS) have to contend with Real Gone Kid, the new kid on the block.

Rafeef’s son, Clap of Thunder (CPYS), is coming to hand steadily for Brett Crawford and will represent value in an open and keenly contested race to end the day.

The first race is off at 1pm.
