Bear Again (Blake Shinn), wins for David Ferraris in Hong Kong.

Bear Again, a R450,000 buy from the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale and originally signed for by Gavin van Zyl, posted his second win in Hong Kong for trainer David Ferraris on Wednesday evening, winning a handicap over 1650m at Happy Valley under Blake Shinn.

“The 1650 at Happy Valley has become his pet distance,” said Ferraris. “He’s more than recovered his purchase price for a partnership of owners who have been with me for 17 years.”

Ferraris said that Frank Robinson had played a part in recommending his acquisition of Bear Again and recalled: “He was bought from Gavin van Zyl after he’d had a few runs, including a good feature run at Turffontein. I thought his form would be good enough for Hong Kong.

“We discovered Bear Again had a small fragment in his fetlock but that has not worried him at all.  He’s not a big horse but very neat. He gets a bit uptight leaving the parade ring but then settles down. He races on the pace and kicks strongly.

Maine Chance-bred by VAR from the stakes winner Frequent Flyer (Silvano), Bear Again has earned $HK1,97-million (ZAR4,9 million) in two seasons racing in Hong Kong alone, winning two starts and placing in four others.
