FORMER Equus award winning Horse Of The Year Legislate has been retired after an uncharacteristically lacklustre showing in Friday evening’s Gr2 Drill Hall Stakes.

A winner of 4 Gr1 races for trainer Justin Snaith, including a dramatic victory in the Gr1 Vodacom Durban July, he was placed in another three Gr1 races and showed world-class versatility, winning from a mile to 2200m.

He was awarded Equus Champion 3yo Male of 2014, Equus Champion Middle Distance Horse of 2014 and Equus Champion Miler of 2015.

In his home province, he was feted as Cape Horse Of The Year twice, Cape Champion 3yo Colt twice and Cape Champion Middle Distance Horse twice.

The son of Equus Horse Of The Year and treble Equus Outstanding Sire, Dynasty, he set a new mile record at Kenilworth when winning the Gr2 Green Point Stakes.

In total he started fourteen times in Graded features and won seven races, with seven places.

He will be a welcome addition to the Cape stallion ranks and will stand at the world-renowned Drakenstein Stud under the Freemanstallions banner.
