John Koster of Klawervlei Stud has picked his ‘dazzling dozen’ from 53 lots (including those consigned ‘as agent), to be offered at Sunday’s CTS De Grendel Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Koster submitted the following comments:
Lot 10: Colt by Trippi – Captain’s Emblem “This cross has produced a massive 16.6% stakes winners to runners. A beautiful colt in the mould of Trippi who himself is just getting better with age.”
Lot 33: Colt by Captain Of All – Elusive Spirit “A beautiful colt made in the mould of his sire. He is from a Caesour mare, the great ‘E’ family of Epoque, Ecurie, Empress Club, Elusive Fort fame, on a cross that has produced 17% stakes winners to runners including G1 Paddock Stakes winner, Emerald Cove.”
Lot 78: Colt by Vercingetorix – Larking Around “By a future champion stallion of South Africa from a Montjeu mare who has produced six winners from six runners including a pair of four-time winners. From the great Australian family of Anacheeva and Headturner. Montjeu mares have already amassed 92 individual stakes winners and 11 G1 winners.”

Lot 113: Colt by William Longsword – Polar Trip “A magnificent colt from the dam of Fifty-Fiver, already a winner of the CTS Ready To Run Stakes and R500,000 in prize money. Interesting is that Captain Al on this family has produced a champion two-year-old colt in Always In Charge, who sadly died, Captain Lars, champion all-weather horse in the UK with 24 wins, and Alaskan Maiden who was Gr1 placed. Family of the great Pivotal.
Lot 147: Colt by Rafeef – Sitia “By the champion freshman sire from a three-time winning Captain Al mare who in turn is out of a Nureyev mare from the international family of Caesour.
Lot 158: Colt by William Longsword – The Thin Red Line “From the dam of dual G1 winner Linebacker, also second in the Cape Guineas and Durban July. Bred on the same Captain Al cross with the brilliant sire and broodmare sire, Redoute’s Choice.
Lot 24: Filly by Gimmethegreenlight – Crazy About Me “A stunning individual bred from a six-time winner in the US. The family of Monarchos, who won the G1 KY Derby and the G1 Florida Derby, top international family.

Lot 47: Filly by William Longsword – For The Lads “This is a big, high quality and very well balanced filly from G1 Golden Slipper winner For The Lads. She has had two winners from two runners, comes from the family of Durban July winner Heavy Metal, G1 winner Planetary Music and G1 winner Drum Star.
Lot 112: Filly by What A Winter – Pistacchio “She looks like and is in the same mould as G1 winner Clouds Unfold and interestingly Horse Chestnut, as a broodmare sire, has already sire 24 stakes winners among which 9 individual G1 winners, a massive 2.8% G1 winners to runners. A smart, racy filly from the old Koster family of Majorca and Majolica.
Lot 115: Filly by Gimmethegreenlight – Primrose Hill “A beautiful grey daughter of Gimmethegreenlight from an international family. Her dam is by Giant’s Causeway who, as a broodmare sire, has produced 138 stakes winners at 5.7% stakes winners to runners; also the sire of 24 G1 winners.”

Lot 126: Filly by Pomodoro – Safe Harbour “From the same cross of Jet Master over Fort Wood that produced Thunder Dance, this nice filly is the first foal of the super race filly Safe Harbour, who was very unlucky not to have won a G1 race, she ran second in the Cape Fillies Guineas, the Paddock Stakes and the SA Fillies Classic.”
Lot 163: Filly by Pomodoro – Trophy Wife “A very well balanced, athletic and good-looking filly, just the second foal of smart seven-time winner Trophy Wife, who won a G2 and was multiple G1 placed.”
