THE McHardy family’s Rathmor Stud of Nottingham Road, were the leading buyers at Friday evening’s 2017 CTS Mares, Weanlings and Fillies for Stud Sale held at Highlands Farm, part of Ridgemont.

The McHardy’s, bidding by phone, opened their shoulders early with a R2,4-million purchase, Lot 15 – Almosthaditall (USA), a daughter of Henrythenavigator and a mare by Storm Cat, in foal to Dynasty.

Later in the sale, they acquired Lot 69, Mile High (Fastnet Rock x Crinolette x Sadler’s Wells), for R900,000. She’s a stakes-placed mare from the family of Barathea and was sold in foal to Silvano.

Young Sensation, the dam of Legal Eagle, was sold to Bidvest’s Lindsey Ralphs for R750,000. She’s in foal to Legal Eagle’s sire, Grey’s Inn, for the first time since producing SA’s current Horse Of The Year.

Rathmor, with three purchases overall, was the leading buyer at R1,183-million per mare, while Klawervlei Stud sold 30 lots at an average R267,500 to be the leading vendor.

The Sale felt economic pressure and the turnover was markedly down to an aggregate of R13,684,000. The average price of R166,342 also showed the market decline.
