FOREST Fox, winner of Saturday’s R750 000 Grand Heritage, is from the immediate family of Drakenstein Stud’s popular young sire, and former Horse Of The Year, Futura.

Bred by Peter de Beyer, and trained by Paul Peter, Forest Fox gave jockey Gavin Lerena his second straight win in the popular Grand Heritage, with Gavin having prevailed in the inaugral race aboard Irish Pride.

Forest Fox, who was third to champion Harry’s Son in the G2 Gauteng Guineas, took his earnings to over R1 million with his big race win on Saturday.

His dam, the Fort Wood mare Forest Vixen, is a winning half-sister to the dam of R4.3 million plus earner Futura, whose nine career wins included both the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and G1 J&B Met, as well as two scores in the G1 Champions Cup.

This is also the family of G1 Paddock Stakes winner Angelina and Equus Champion Aslan, to name but two.

Four time G1 winner and multiple champion Futura, a son of Fort Wood’s great son Dynasty, has let down into a magnificent stallion and his first foals have arrived to rave reviews this year.

Futura’s sire Dynasty continues to make waves, and responsible for last season’s Equus Champions Lady In Black and Just Sensual. Futura is one of 13 G1 winners for his four times Equus Outstanding Sire Dynasty, whose other notable performers include fellow Drakenstein Stud sire and Horse Of The Year Legislate.
