Got The Greenlight, a R120,000 CTS purchase, continues to deliver runs from the top drawer. The Joe Soma-trained colt added a third Gr1 success to his career record when running out a 1.50-length winner of the prestigious Daily News 2000 at Greyville on Saturday. Another CTS graduate Padre Pio finished second ahead of the favourite, Golden Ducat.

When last Got The Greenlight came to Greyville, he won the Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes as a two-year-old, a run that went a long way to secure the Equus Champion Two-Year-Old Title.

The smart bay colt remains the male leader of his generation and Soma and his connections will be hoping that the he can remain an undefeated star of the Durban track when he takes on the likes of Rainbow Bridge, Vardy and Do It Again in the Durban July on 25 July.

Soma said: “He’s a super, super horse. This is one of the great races of the turf and it’s been on my bucket list. It’s a privilege to be a participant in racing and to train a horse like this.”

Jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe said he was smiling to himself at the 1400m mark when he saw Warren Kennedy coming around him On Golden Ducat. “Our tactics were working out and at that point I knew he’d be hard to beat. He is special, I’m looking forward to seeing him in the Durban July.”

Soma praised Got The Greenlight’s breeders, Nadeson Park Stud, and said: “They’re breeding better horses every year.”

Got The Greenlight, by Gimmethegreenlight from Command Chi (Commands) is owned in partnership by Soma, Dayalan Chinsammy and Hassen Adams. His career earnings stand at R2,038-million, with six wins and two places from 12 runs.
