Drakenstein Stud’s exciting sire Duke Of Marmalade will be represented by his first South African yearlings at this month’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

The former Cartier Champion, a proven, world class sire of more than 50 stakes horses, has a quality draft on offer at the Premier Sale.

A half brother to former G1 Investec Derby winner Ruler Of The World, and from the same family as champion sires A P Indy, Al Mufti and Raja Baba, Duke Of Marmalade’s top offspring include such high class European classic winners as Simple Verse, Star Of Seville, Nutan and Sound Of Freedom. The latter also landed the 2016 G1 Premio Lydia Tesio.

Some of the highlights from Duke Of Marmalade’s first sales draft include:

Lot 16 –a colt whose dam is by a sprint champion (Orientate) out of a sprint champion (Harry’s Charm). The same family as champions National Currency and Enchantress –both of whom, like Duke Of Marmalade himself, were sired by a son of Danzig

Lot 66 –this filly, whose dam is a G1 placed stakes winning daughter of champion sire Silvano, has a remarkable pedigree. Her first three dams are stakes winners, and her second dam, by champion sire Foveros, won the G1 Germiston November Handicap

Lot 88 –a half brother to G1 2yo Double Appeal, this colt is out of a G1 winning daughter of G1 Met winning champion Imperious Sue and this is the same family as recent G1 Grand Parade Cape Guineas hero William Longsword

Lot 89 –out of a half sister to a stakes winner (and R2 000 000 yearling buy), this filly’s second dam is an own sister to Oaks winning champion Monyela and a three parts sister to Horse Of The Year and G1 sire Horse Chestnut

Lot 91 –bred on the hugely Duke Of Marmalade/Sadler’s Wells line mare cross, this colt is out of a four time winning own sister to Horse Of The Year and young sire Irish Flame

Lot 104 –bred on a similar cross to Duke Of Marmalade’s champion Simple Verse, this filly is out of G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner King’s Temptress and is from the same family as former star sprinter Golden Taipan Lot 122 –out of a G1 placed daughter of promising broodmare sire Windrush, this colt’s second dam is none other than former G1 Oaks runner up Miss Rooney

Lot 144 –inbred to the great mare Lassie Dear, this colt is a half brother to four winners including ill-fated CTS Million Dollar winner Illuminator, and his second dam is former G1 winning 2yo Silver Arc

Lot 164 –this filly is out of G2 winning speedball Reflective Image, whose close relative, Gold Image, made an impressive winning debut recently and holds an entry in the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes on Sun Met day

Lot 171 – this filly is out of a winning half sister to former Equus Champion, G2 Godolphin Mile winner and young sire Soft Falling Rain –who, like Duke Of Marmalade, is sired by a son of Danzig

Lot 180 – out of a lightning fast G1 daughter of top speed sire Var, this colt (whose dam is also a sister to a winner in Dubai) is from the same family as graded winners Royal I Q and Mentor

Lot 187 – a half sister to 6 winners, including a stakes winner and record priced, and hugely promising 3yo Horizon, this filly’s dam is a full sister to multiple G1 winner and champion sire Silvano and half sister to US G1 winner Sabiango

Lot 193 – a half sister to four winners, including exported Derby hero Silvano’s Jet, this filly is out of a five time stakes winning three parts sister to G1 winner Little Miss Magic Lot 216 – out of a G3 winning daughter of Var, this colt is from the same family as none other than US champion sire Tapit. Truly a stallion’s pedigree!

Lot 217 – a half sister to four winners (including a feature race winner), this filly (inbred to Lassie Dear) is out of a five time winning daughter of Al Mufti and Foveros’ G2 winner Vino Rosa

Lot 221 – this colt is a half brother to 3 winners including G1 performer Super Storm and champion Eskimo Roll. And his stakes placed Western Winter sired dam is a half sister to top sprinter Something Else. The family of ill-fated flying machine Sunera.

Lot 231 –another inbred to Lassie Dear, this colt is out of a half sister to Danzig line sired G2 winner Philippa Johnson (herself dam of ill-fated G2 winner Chekilli)

Lot 233 –bred on the same cross as the Duke’s German Derby winning sire son Nutan, this colt is a half brother to 3 winners, including G1 winning 2yo Afrikaburn and the smart 3yo The Slade. His first three dams are by Peintre Celebre, Green Desert and Habitat respectively with his third dam being G1 winning sprinter Sigy Lot 236 –inbred to Lassie Dear, this colt (a half brother to a stakes horses) is out of a G1 own sister to Dubai champion and G1 sire Victory Moon and this is the family of current G1 stars Real Princess and William Longsword.
