“The early bird catches a good yearling!” Rob Pickering of Middlefield Stud reckons his Duke Of Marmalade colt, Duke Of Gold (Lot 2) is the best in the Middlefield consignment and that buyers not around at the start of the CTS Sale at 17:30 on Thursday will miss out on an opportunity to buy a very nice colt

“He is a lot of horse that won’t come early but he has the pedigree. His dam Lanterns Of Gold (Fantastic Light) is a half-sister to the great Dancer’s Daughter, joint-winner of the 2008 Durban July.”

Lot 108 is a Twice Over colt, the second Middlefield yearling in the Select Session. His dam is Golden  Breeze (Spectrum), a half-sister to Allan Robertson Championship winner On Her Toes.

In Session 2, look out for Middlefield’s Lot 244, a Byword full-sister to what is already a two-time winner and an athletic type, according to Pickering.

Lot 230 is Querari Cowboy, a son of Querari and West To East. “He is tall, big and rangy, from a mare who has had winners from four previous foals including Brian Wiid’s useful four-time winner Emily Jay.”
