John Freeman of the Thoroughbred Group went to R4 million to secure a Frankel colt that topped the sale at a buoyant first session of the Cape Premier Yearling Sale at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Saturday evening.

With a strong international contingent present that included, amongst others, Briton Amanda Skiiffington of Anglia Bloodstock, former Godolphin CEO John Ferguson, Angus Gold of Shadwell and representatives of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, it was Capetonian Freeman who secured #94, a magnificent Frankel colt.

He was consigned by Klawervlei as agent, and is bred on the same Kingmambo cross as Group winners Eminent and Last Kingdom. The chestnut is the fifth foal of the unraced Irish-bred mare Pale Moon Rising. Both her runners to date are winners.

Champion sire Silvano topped the sires table on the evening with an aggregate of R9 775 000 – his eleven lots averaging R888 636.

Star producer Captain Al sold 8 lots for an aggregate of R9,7 million with an average of R1 212 500. The evergreen star of Dynasty shone brightly, with his 6 totalling R8,4 million for an average of R1,4 million.

The second day of the sale starts at 1pm today, followed by the CTS Breeding Stock Sale. Turf Talk
