Some of the Cape’s top sires could be represented at the 2018 Dubai World Cup meeting, which takes place at Meydan racecourse on March 31st.

Maine Chance Farm’s outstanding sire, and reigning South African Champion, Silvano could be represented at the meeting –both as a sire, and as a grandsire!

Silvano sons Al Sahem (Dubai World Cup, Sheema Classic, Dubai Turf, Godolphin Mile) and Janoobi  (Dubai Turf, Godolphin Mile) both hold  big-race entries on the night, while Bold Silvano (one of four July winners sired by Silvano) could be represented by his son Bold Rex in either the G1 Dubai Turf or G2 Godolphin Mile.

Another Maine Chance Farms’ sire Black Minnaloushe is closely related to Long River –who has been entered in the G1 Dubai World Cup and G2 Godolphin Mile. Winner of the 2017 G1 Maktoum Challenge (Round 3), Long River is out of G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Round Pond –whose dam is a half-sister to Black Minnaloushe.

Drakenstein based stallions could also enjoy representation on the night, with Champion Sire Trippi’s son Liquid Mercury being entered in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic and G2 Dubai Gold Cup.

Duke Of Marmalade’s outstanding son, and hugely popular gelding, Big Orange also has been entered for the $1 000 000 Gold Cup –a race he was placed in the last two years running.

Other Cape sires who could be represented on World Cup night include Ashaawes, whose Oldlands Stud bred son Sanshaawes has been entered for the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic and G1 Dubai Turf, and Go Deputy. The latter, who stands at Lammerskraal Stud, is the sire of Sheema Classic/Dubai Turf entrant Icy Trail. Dynasty’s G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas winner Smiling Blue Eyes has an entry in the G1 Sheema Classic, while Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting young sire Flower Alley’s star son Bullards Alley has an entry in the G2 Dubai Gold Cup.
