KLAWERVLEI Stud’s exciting young sire Twice Over was represented by his second first crop winner in five days when Sand And Sea made a winning debut over 1200m at Scottsville on Wednesday.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, the Dennis Drier trained Sand And Sea is owned by Bernard Kantor, Jack Mitchell, Marsh Shirtliff and Mayfair Speculators.
The well related colt, who is inbred to Blushing Groom, was backed in to start a 5/2 favourite for Wednesday’s race and duly obliged. It was an impressive introduction to racing for a classically bred colt!
Sand And Sea is the second winner for champion Twice Over, whose daughter Lacerta saluted at Kenilworth on Saturday, and the multiple G1 winner is looking a young sire of distinct promise.
A four time G1 winner and European champion Twice Over is from the same family as top class US 3yo Patch, a leading hope for the 2017 US Triple Crown.
Twice Over’s yearlings have once again been in demand this year, with his yearlings fetching up to R 2.1 million.
There are three Twice Over yearlings on offer on Day Two of the National Yearling Sale, Thursday 4 May.
