ASCOT Stud’s late successful sire Sail From Seattle has enjoyed a remarkable season of success with his two-year-olds in 2016-2017.
The son of Gone West was represented by his tenth juvenile winner on Wednesday when daughter Singing In Seattle saluted over 1000m.
Bred by the Wicklow Stud, Singing In Seattle was not winning out of turn, with the filly having been placed in her first two outings and was coming off a good third in the Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery last time out.
Other recent two-year-old winners for the blue blooded Sail From Seattle (whose relatives include champion US sire Smart Strike, Breeders’ Cup winner Dance Smartly and triple SA G1 winner Jackson) include the stakes placed Quinlan and debut winner Puget Sound.
Another smart two-year-old by the sire is Autumn In Seattle, who won his first two starts by nearly nine lengths and who finished a close up second (conceding 2kgs) in Saturday’s Sentinel Stakes.
Sail From Seattle, whose past notable runners include exported G1 Cape Guineas winner Elusive Gold and G1 Cape Flying Championship hero Gulf Storm, is also responsible for recent G3 Sycamore Sprint winner Seattle Singer.
The latter, runner up in last season’s G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion, has banked more than R670 000 in prize money.
Sail From Seattle has four yearlings on this month’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, including a colt (inbred to Gone West) out of a half-sister to G1 winners The Sheik and Al Nitak (Lot 65), a filly from the same family as G1 winners Colonial Girl, Edict Of Nantes and Lord Shirldor (Lot 67), and a filly (three parts sister to the sire’s smart performer Pacific Spirit) from the same family as sire legends Sadler’s Wells, Nureyev and Fairy King (Lot 100).
