Just Sensual lands another big one

Gr1 Cape Guineas Winner Just Sensual underlined the strength of this season’s three-year-old form and franked her second to Carry On Alice in the Gr1 SA Fillies Sprint, winning the Gr2 Tibouchina Stakes over 1400m at Greyville on Saturday.

Anton Marcus had Just Sensual (16-10f) placed in midfield behind pacemaker Neala and an awkward Captain’s Flame. They swung wide and around runners coming for home, maybe not the safest option in a Gr2 but Marcus knew what he had under him.

Just Sensual ran on strongly, kicked into the lead and kept another good finisher, Nightingale, at bay by half a length.  Team Valor and partners will be delighted with the third place of Ana Pavlova, who gave a big account of herself at 25-1.

“I expected Just Sensual to win easier. It was her second run following a layoff but she will have to up her game for the Garden Province.  Well done to all, a big team effort.”

Joey Ramsden seemed quite content with Just Sensual’s performance – she did, after all, beat the Gr1 Majorca Stakes winner into second so the merit is all there – and he said: “I think a mile may be her best trip, I had no problem trying her over last week’s 2000m but Derek (Brugman) would have castrated me,” joked Ramsden.

Just Sensual, bred by Klawervlei  Stud from Dynasty and Consensual, was a R2-million purchase for Markus Jooste’s Mayfair Speculators at CTS Book 2 in 2015. She’s won five of eight.
