DANCING Rags, the talented half-sister to Klawervlei’s exciting young stallion Coup De Grace, is one of 109 three-year-old fillies who have been entered in the 143rd Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) this year. One of the top-two-year-old fillies of last year, Dancing Rags has won two of four starts including the 2016 G1 Alciabiades Stakes.
Coup De Grace’s sire, three times US champion Tapit, is also well represented by potential starters in the 2017 Kentucky Oaks, with the son of Pulpit responsible for seven Oaks entries, including current favourite Unique Bella. The latter has won three of just four starts, and has won her last two races (in graded races) by an aggregate of more than 16 lengths!
Tapit’s other notable Kentucky Oaks entries include Pretty City Dancer and Sweet Loretta, who dead heated for first in last year’s G1 Spinaway Stakes, while Tapit’s sons, Hansen and Tapizar, are also represented by potential entries in the 2017 Kentucky Oaks.
Tapit has already tasted success in the Churchill Downs classic, with his champion daughter Untapable having won the Kentucky Oaks back in 2014.
The only son of Tapit at stud in South Africa, Coup De Grace was a top class performer, whose wins included both the G2 Amsterdam Stakes and G3 Bay Shore Stakes. His dam, G3 performer Home Court, is a daughter of multiple champion sire Storm Cat, who also features as the broodmare sire of outstanding US sire Speightstown.
